Update - March 25

This was a wonderful week of learning!

In our Rooted in Reading Series, our story was called Me....Jane!  It was a biography of the childhood life of Jane Goodall.  We discussed how important the illustrations are in a story and also looked at why the author focused on her childhood and how it led to the impact her young life had on her adult life.  (Structure of the story!)  In Grammar, we looked at comparative adjectives and when to add er, ier, or more to compare two nouns.

In Math, we completed our chapter on three digit numbers - comparing them and understanding their place value.  We did well on our assessment!!  In our next chapter, we will begin adding groups of tens and ones to a three digit number.  The learning just keeps going on!!

In Handwriting, we have begun our capital cursive letters.  Next quarter (coming soon), we will begin writing our assignments in cursive!

In Science, we are beginning a new unit on Weather (Wind and Rain)!

Keep working on your Jesus Book! -

Parents can also work on those special Jesus Day Support Letters!!

Molly read to the Preschoolers this week:)

Update - March 16

The food committee would appreciate your help with donations for the lunch and snacks on Jesus Day. We have pizza (and donuts for the adult volunteers) that have been generously donated. All of the other items we try to provide in order to minimize some of the cost to the parish.

I would ask the items be delivered to me no later than Sunday, May 1st, so we can make sure that we have everything we need for the kids (and the adult volunteers).

 A very quick week!

Our Lucky Families :)

We began our Monday morning with a presentation by Miss Sharkey.  She taught us how we are all different, how we must show empathy,  and how we must encourage others to play with us and become involved in what we are doing.

Our story this week in our Rooted in Reading Series was Rosie Revere!  We had fun discovering how authors sometimes use rhyme to help us see what is coming next and for entertainment!  In Grammar, we looked at irregular present and past verbs.

In Math, we are beginning to add three digit numbers.  In Handwriting, we are reviewing our lower case cursive letters and in Religion we are reviewing the Liturgy of the Word.

The Father's Mass was so nice!  It was great to see all the Dads at Mass with their second graders!

We hope everyone enjoys their 4 day weekend!

We really enjoyed a pre-St. Patrick's Day celebration on Wednesday :). We might have had a leprechaun visit!!!!

Some recess fun :)

Update - March 11

We had a fun week of learning!

Our story in our Rooted in Reading Series was - That's What Leprechauns Do.   It was a fun story about leprechauns where we looked at the skills of Character and Setting.  We concentrated on the traits of a Character (there were many for leprechauns lol) and the place of a Setting.  In Grammar, we looked at Collective Nouns.  We wrote a summary of our story and a pot of gold filled with collective nouns to decorate our hall for the upcoming holiday :)

In Math, we are taking apart our three digit numbers so we understand what each digit stands for before we add and subtract them.

We completed our last lower case cursive letter - woohoo!  Now we will review and move on to the capital cursive letters!

We practiced going to Communion (with crackers) and are looking at the closing of the Mass - Living as the Body of Christ!

On Friday, we went to Reconciliation for the second time - did you see the halo when they came home :)

Our story last week was Library Lion!  We made fun loopy lions:)

Keep working on that Jesus Book!!

102nd Day!

We ended last week by celebrating the '102' Day of School!  We had fun wearing 102 Glasses and making 102 Necklaces!

We then began our new week with our Mass of Blessing!  With the special blessing from Fr. Lanning, we are getting closer to receiving our First Communion!

Aiden, Liam S., and Elliana did a great with their different 'jobs' at the Mass!

We enjoyed and learned from our first March story called Library Lion!  We looked at the skill of discovering the character's feelings and how their feelings change throughout the story and then how this effects the story!  In Grammar, we looked carefully at when to use the articles a, an, and the.  Sometimes it is tricky to decide if it should be a or the!!

In Math, we are continuing to look at three digit numbers and how to say the three digit numbers in three different ways! (standard, expanded form, and word form)

In Religion, we are looking at the steps on how to go to Communion and in Handwriting we are finishing up our last few cursive lower case letters!

In Science, we completed a short Science Spin lesson on reptiles!

Julia read for the Preschoolers this week!
