Update - February 25

 What a busy week!

I look forward to seeing everyone at the Mass of Blessing this Sunday at 9:30 a.m.  Have your child check in with me before Mass!!

We began our week celebrating being in Second Grade on Tuesday - 2-22-22!  Since this will not occur again for 200 years, it was worth celebrating!  We wore tutus, dressed as twins, and wrote 22 sets of pairs during our Centers!

Our story in our Rooted in Reading Series was Henry's Freedom Box.  This was a story about the Underground Railroad.  The students were very interested in this part of our history since we just read a story about Lincoln and how he abolished slavery.  The skill we worked on was finding the mood of the story - very evident in this story!!  In Grammar, we worked on Conjunctions.  With this intro to Conjunctions, we concentrated on the first 6 and really tried to see how to use 'nor' and 'yet'!

In Math, we are making 3 digit numbers as an intro to adding 3 digit numbers!

We did just marvelous on our Famous American Presentation - Mrs Horner was proud of us!

Aiden read to the PreSchoolers this week :)

Update - February 17

We had a shortened week but enjoyed learning every minute!

A big thank you to all the families who thought of me on Valentine's Day!  The treats were very much appreciated and enjoyed!

We began the week with our Valentine Exchange!  We made a 'Love Monster' to hold our goodies and our Room mom Mrs. McAleer sent in a fun treat.  Thanks to Mrs. Hollo and Mrs. Orlando for sending in the drinks also :)

The story this week in our Rooted in Reading Series was called Alexander, Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday.  This was a fun story and taught us the lesson of how hard it is to save money with all the temptations in our world today.  That was the skill we worked on - the lesson of the story.  In Grammar, we looked at Pronouns.  We discussed the most commonly used ones and also a few that are not so common.

In Math, we completed our money and time unit and did a great job on our Assessment!

Playing addition challenge in Math before our assessment!

We are continuing with the lower case cursive letters and will finish them soon!  In our Eucharist book, we are finishing up the Liturgy of the Word.

We enjoyed a yoga lesson on Thursday!  A great way to help us calm our bodies before assessments or anytime we are upset!!!

Evy read to Preschool this week :)

Reminders!  Students must bring in their Famous American costume or item on Tuesday!

Another reminder!  Room 205 will Present their Famous American on Thursday at 8:30 in the Social Hall (under the church)!  Parents are invited to attend with Room 204, 313, and 314!!  Hope to see you there!

Update - February 11

 We had a great week!

We began with our 8th Grade vs Faculty volleyball game postponed from Catholic Schools Week!  We loved rooting for everyone and learning great sportsmanship!

On Tuesday, we dressed in our Disney attire (again postponed from Catholic Schools Week!)  It was a fun and relaxing day!

Our story this week in the Rooted in Reading Series was Sombody Loves You, Mr. Hatch.  It is a touching story about Valentine's Day - check it out on youtube.com :)  The skill we worked on was Point of View (who is telling the story).  In Grammar, we worked on many abbreviations.  We discovered some are the same (Dr. = drive and Dr. = doctor).  We also know that some are not really abbreviations at all but are symbols for a word (centimeter = cm).

In Math, we are learning to tell time to the five minutes and also to learn what the terms quarter to, quarter past, and half past mean!

In Handwriting, we are continuing with the lower case cursive letters - soon we will be able to write our Spelling words in cursive!

In Religion, we are on Chapter 3 of our Eucharist Book and are talking about the Liturgy of the Word.

On Wednesday, we began our research for our Famous American that we picked in class.  Thank you to Mrs. Hollo and Mrs. Corrigan for helping us!

Kathryn read for the Preschoolers this week :)

Update - February 4

Such a wonderful Catholic Schools Week!

We began our week with the St. Edward's Trash Talkers - Soooo fun  :)

Then (also on Monday!), Fr. Don gave us a tour of the Sacristy - we learned a lot about what happens 'behind the scenes' at Mass!

At the end of the day, we made cards for the Senior Center with our 8th Grade Confirmation friends!

It was a busy Monday!  We still took time to introduce our story for the week!  This week our story in our Rooted in Reading Series was Looking at Lincoln.  We learned a lot about our 16th President.  Not only about his accomplishments but a little more about his life!  The skill we concentrated on was Main Purpose of the Text.  In Grammar, we looked at all the things that need Capital Letters besides our name and the first letter of a sentence!

In Math, we continued counting money and looked at many different ways to make the same amount of money!

On Wednesday, we dressed as our future career choice and then explained to the class why we picked that career!

Emily read Akiak to our Preschool friends!

We played Bingo in the afternoon - our 8th grade friends organized and led the fun times!

We also created a Thank You card for Fr. Don and wrote a special note to our Moms and Dads in our journal to thank them for sending us to the Best School Ever!!
