Update - June 3

Our time of learning and sharing is coming to an end!  Our final unit in Reading was on 'Bees'!  We discussed, read, watched videos, completed worksheets and observed everything we could about the life cycle of a Bee :)  We enjoyed every minute of it!  We had a former student (who is now a beekeeper herself) join us for a special presentation!  Thank you Tess Lorek!

Bee Cycle Headbands :)

We are working on a unit of 2/3 Dimensional Shapes in Math and are finishing up our capital cursive letters in Handwriting!

Be sure to wear Purple on Monday for our Spring Olympics :)

What a wonderful year it has been!  We have learned a lot, and grown a lot, and made a lot of friends :)

Second grade taught us much  - now third grade is calling us!  We will remember one of the best years of our educational careers!  We will miss each other like CRAZY!

Have a Happy and Safe Summer!

 Love,  Mrs. Horner

Fun Fair fun :)

Thank you Fr. Don for all your words of wisdom this year :)

Update - May 27

 We had a great week!

This week in Rooted in Reading we looked at Poetry - Our book was called Old Elm Speaks!  We concentrated on Alliteration, Onomatopoeia, Similies, Personification, and Repetition!  We wrote poetry and listened to poetry.  This was the last unit in Rooted in Reading.  Next week we will look at and discuss the life cycle of a Bee :)

In Grammar, we reviewed nouns, verbs, and adjectives!

In Math, we are completing a Measurement Unit and in Handwriting we are continuing our upper case cursive letters!

Emily had the class in 'stitches' when she read the book Perfect to the class!

We began our end of the year balloon pop!  For the last 10 days of school, we pop a balloon with a fun activity to enjoy -----

Day 10 - writing on our desks with shaving cream :)

Day 9 -- Playing board games!

Don't forget to either print and send in the Olympic Day Permission Form or sign it and send it to me online!  (It was sent in a separate email earlier this week!)

FYI - Our class color for Spring Olympics is Purple - please look through your child's summer clothing and see if you can find a Purple shirt to wear to school on June 6th for Spring Olympics!!

Update - May 20

 What a nice week!

We ended last week with a Popcorn/Movie day as our last prize from Boosterthon!

This week our story in Rooted in Reading was called Fireflies!  We looked at the Author's Purpose as to why the story was written.  We learned that PIE stands for Persuade, Inform, or Entertain.  The three main reasons an author writes a story!

Playing a PIE game :)

We also reviewed Cause and Effect since there was a perfect example of this in our story.  In Grammar, we spent the week with lots of Homophones!  We are getting pretty good at recognizing them!

In Math, we are now looking at metric measurement with centimeters and meters.  We are working hard to continue with our uppercase cursive letters in Handwriting and are reviewing the Mass in Religion.

We enjoyed a Faith Family activity on Friday to honor our 8th graders who are leaving to attend many High Schools!

We have really enjoyed watching our butterflies come out of their chrysalis this week but were sad to let them go!
