Update - December 17

We had a wonderful and busy week!

This week we completed a Project Based Learning Unit on Reindeer!  Each day with the help of our Ipads, we researched another aspect of Reindeer - exp. what do they eat, what do they look like, and where do they live.   We learned a lot about Reindeer!!  We also created posters for the First Grade Hall encouraging the students to earn three stickers so they could buy our product - reindeer food :)  We were very busy, had lots of fun, and learned a lot!

Visiting the Candy Cane Shop is always a highlight in Grade 2!  We were real shoppers as we purchased for our families :)

We also created a Reindeer Book with some of the new learning we came up with in our Research!

Whitney read to the Preschool class this week - Mrs. Rapps said she did a great job :)

We were very proud of our Grade 2 group at the Christmas Program!  They did a beautiful job!

A huge thank you to Mrs McAleer who was willing to get our Happy Birthday Jesus Party moved to Friday - with just a day notice!!  Thanks to the other volunteers who sent things in for us - Mrs. Bobko, Mrs. Hollo, Mrs. Graham, and Mrs. McAleer!  We loved it :)

Have a wonderful Christmas and a Blessed New Year!

2022 will bring First Communion, Famous Americans, and Dinosaurs :)

Update - December 10

 What a fun week!

Our week began with a visit from St. Nicholas!  It was so fun to put our shoes in the hall and have St. Nick fill them with kisses and a candy cane!

We also had a very good speaker - Ms. Sharkey.  She gave us a presentation on celebrating our differences and showing as well as feeling empathy.  She was very knowledgeable in her field and gave us a lot of food for thought!!

Our story in our Rooted in Reading series was 'Night Tree'.  A very sweet story - check it out on youtube.com!   This story concentrated on the skill of Main Idea.  We had discussions of the Main Idea and details for several of the stories we have read recently.  We also reviewed contractions.  Then we used our First, Next, Then, Last writing strategy to write about our own special Christmas and the traditions each of us have with our families!

In Math, we completed a Chapter Assessment on adding 2 two-digit numbers!  Nice job 205 :)

In Music, we practiced for the upcoming Christmas Program.  We are excited to sing our 3 songs!

Mrs. Kostura took time out of her busy schedule to help us paint our Reindeer t-shirts.  Next week we will work on a Project Based Learning Unit on Reindeer and we will wear our t-shirts in class all week!

Don't forget we will attend the Candy Cane Shop on December 14th at 10:41-11:22!!!!

Update - December 3

 Such a busy week!

In our Rooted in Reading Series, we loved the how to story called How to Catch Santa!  Not only did we cover sequencing and putting our ideas in order, but we also concentrated on using Transition Words like first, next, then, and last.  As we organized our thoughts we learned how important it is to ask questions as we read a story to help us keep the sequence in order.

In Grammar, we reviewed the parts of a letter and wrote our own friendly letters to Santa :)

Each week one of the students in Room 205 will read a story to Mrs. Rapp's Preschool class - Will did a great job this week!

In Math, we are continuing using partial sums to add two 2-digit as well as three 2-digit and four 2-digit numbers.

In Handwriting,  we began our first cursive letters - very exciting!

In Religion, our Reconciliation was a huge success!  All four priests commented on how well the students were prepared!

Colm did a great job reading!

Now we can relax and enjoy the upcoming Christmas fun!
